CertainTeed® Residential Siding Products Verified by Vinyl Industry Sustainability Initiative
CertainTeed is the first Siding end-product manufacturer to receive Gold verification
Malvern, PA – (September,4 2024) CertainTeed®, a leading North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, has announced that its residential vinyl siding products have successfully met all the requirements of +Vantage Vinyl™, an industry-wide sustainability initiative that engages companies across the entire U.S. vinyl value chain. CertainTeed, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is the first Siding end-product manufacturer to receive Gold level verification, further solidifying the company’s innovative commitment to be a sustainable leader in the industry.
Companies that showcase the +Vantage Vinyl mark have undergone verification by third-party GreenCircle Certified to confirm their progress to the program’s Guiding Principles relating to environmental stewardship, social diligence, economic soundness, open communication, and collaboration. The initiative’s structure ensures that CertainTeed is advancing the sustainability journey of the vinyl industry in alignment with targeted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
“We are honored to be verified by +Vantage Vinyl and are ecstatic to be the first Siding end-product manufacturer to receive the Gold level verification,” said Joseph Bondi, Vice President/General Manager for CertainTeed Siding Products Group. “Our siding portfolio offers consumers and contractors a multitude of beautiful and resilient cladding solutions with increased transparency.”
+Vantage Vinyl is a sustainability initiative of the Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC), a self-funded business council advancing sustainability in the vinyl industry. It is the only sustainability initiative that allows participation from all companies within the entire vinyl value chain with U.S. operations, ranging from raw material manufacturers and suppliers to final product manufacturers and retailers.
“Congratulations to CertainTeed for their successful verification to +Vantage Vinyl,” said Jay Thomas, VSC Executive Director. “Continuous improvement of sustainability is a critical initiative of the vinyl industry. By verifying to +Vantage Vinyl, CertainTeed has demonstrated their commitment to the environmental, social and governance tenets of the program’s Guiding Principles. We look forward to our continued collaboration and partnership in the +Vantage Vinyl program.”
CertainTeed continues to expand and introduce new options into its sustainable siding portfolio to meet the demand for these materials. This year, the company expanded its portfolio to include Urban Reserve, a modern metal siding collection, and RISE, a siding product made from 94 percent recycled materials.
CertainTeed strives to make all product information and documentation transparent and accessible for buyers through its Ecomedes-powered site, a comprehensive tool to obtain product performance and sustainability information including ecolabel certifications, rating system contributions, recycled content and reusability, and more.
This verification follows several other recent actions taken by the company to solidify its commitment towards sustainability:
- In July 2024, Saint-Gobain announced that it will save over 10 million gallons of water per year through the installation of smart water submetering systems and other equipment upgrades at its CertainTeed Siding facility in Jackson, Michigan.
- In March, Saint-Gobain announced that its CertainTeed Siding business had reduced manufacturing related emissions by 96% at three facilities in the United States.
