Cutting Through the Offsite Building Code Maze

From the outside, the inspections and permitting process for offsite construction projects can seem complex and confusing. Our team of building scientists and code experts take pride in overseeing that process alongside you.

Working with ONE PRECISION ASSEMBLIES™ (OPA™) automatically gives you a leg up. Whether it’s required in your town or not, we have a state-certified third party inspect our panels as an added layer of quality control. And we ensure our panels meet all codes and regulations in your project’s jurisdiction.

Simply put, we’ll do what it takes to ensure the process is smooth and transparent for you.

What are the building codes for panelized homes?

Manufactured, modular, and panelized homes each have their own regulatory processes, which can vary from state to state.

Panelized homes, like OPA delivers, are distinct from manufactured homes, known as mobile homes, and are not governed by the same codes. Mobile homes must comply with HUD’s Federal Manufactured Home Construction and

When you work with us, you can be confident your design will meet or exceed code. We carefully review your specifications, research the code, and collaborate with local building departments to make the process as smooth as possible.

We guide you every step of the way, unburdening your team to focus on other aspects of your project.

Step one. We evaluate your design and select the appropriate code-compliant specifications.

Step two. We present several design options: one that meets code, one that exceeds code, and, when desired, one that can even meet Net Zero or Passive House standards.

Step three. Alongside you or as your advocate, we go to the local building department, explaining the benefits of speed, quality, oversight, performance, minimal neighborhood disruption, and safety that come with OPA.

Step four. We partner with local inspectors to verify our knowledge of the code and determine the inspection requirements.

Step five. From here, there are several possible outcomes. Your design may be approved based on our building methods without any in-factory inspection requirements. The building department may ask for photos and factory visits. Or your state or town may require a third-party inspections process in the factory (which we already do, regardless).

Designed to make your job easier

Nearly everything in our panels can be easily accessed for on-site inspection. An MEP cavity separated from the building envelope allows electrical and plumbing to be installed at the jobsite without damaging the insulation or impacting the air and moisture barriers in the system. This feature also allows inspectors to easily see the MEP work for inspection, along with framing, insulation, etc.

You also gain peace of mind knowing your panels are constructed from trusted CertainTeed building solutions. Our materials and components work together for optimal performance, enabling you to meet and exceed code. This gives you the added advantage or only needing to select a single specification for thermal, moisture, and air performance, not to mention an unmatched warranty on the entire envelope.
