Facts
Gypsum is a naturally fire-resistant material that has become a leading construction component of fire-rated wall assemblies. Interior finishing materials are rated for flammability.
Options
There are several types of fire-resistant wall assemblies to suit project specifics, including loadbearing and non-loadbearing.
Fire-Resistant Products
Type X Drywall
An interior gypsum board consisting of a solid set, fire resistive, Type X gypsum core enclosed in ivory-colored face paper and a strong liner back paper.
15/16” FireSecure(TM) Stab System
Suited for both UL and ULC fire-rated designs and tested to ASTM E119 for fire rating.
Ridge Vent 9” Filtered Class-A Fire Rated
Works year-round to efficiently ventilate an attic space.
Type C Drywall
Similar to Type X, but with more glass fiber reinforcement and other ingredients for superior fire-resistive properties.
GlasRoc(R) ShaftlinerType X
For multi-story and multi-family residential applications. Fire-resistive, noncombustible, moisture-resistant core with embedded glass mat and a protective acrylic exterior coating.
Sustainable Insulation
Naturally noncombustible, unfaced Sustainable Insulation requires no chemical additives to provide optimum fire protection and is recognized by building code groups as an acceptable fire stop in residential wood-frame walls.
