At our core, we are focused on solving problems and making it possible to create a circular economy for asphalt shingles that keeps them out of our nation's landfills. Roofing shingles alone make up between 12 million and 16 million tons of landfill waste every year.
There has to be another way
There is, and we make it possible by removing the roadblocks that prevented previous efforts in the asphalt industry from succeeding. By providing a simple, sustainable way to use recycled asphalt shingles in road pavement, we offer a solution that is less taxing on the environment, profitable for hot mix asphalt producers and C&D recyclers, and able to meet state and federal standards.
The RenuCore Difference
We tried a new way to solve the long-standing issue of adding recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) into hot mix asphalt (HMA). Instead of previous methods, we concentrated on understanding the aged asphalt binder and making it softer to match the standard quality used in paving.
Our method utilizes the entire shingle, including the aggregate and fiberglass, softening the asphalt back to a performance grade suitable for paving, allowing easy incorporation into HMA and reducing the need for virgin asphalt.
The renewed asphalt pellets are coated with a durable organic shell blend that protects the finished pellets during storage and transportation, and encapsulates the fiberglass, ensuring a reliable and safe supply for HMA production.
Performance and Sustainability Are No Longer at Odds
The paving industry no longer has to choose between performance and sustainability. Our pioneering technology pelletizes both post-industrial and post-consumer shingle waste and creates the ideal conditions for transforming oxidized asphalt into performance grade (PG) asphalt. The resulting paving product provides equivalent performance and greater recycled content, opening the door to cost savings, and reduced environmental impact.
